BUILDING SCIENCE Building science is the science of physical phenomena affecting buildings. It is the science of building materials and the physical environments they are placed within. Building science researchers and practitioners are interested in how building materials perform under a variety of environmental conditions, either alone or in combination with other building materials and components in building assemblies. Essentially, they think of how energy and matter behave in and around building materials and assemblies. They're also interested in the environmental conditions created by enclosing spaces within construction assemblies. This scientific understanding of building materials, assemblies, and the environmental conditions created within and around buildings allows building science practitioners to optimize building performance, health, durability and safety. It also permits them to understand the character of building failures so they can be prevented or resolved.
Building science is a multi-disciplinary field, drawing from several disciplines of scientific research. The activities of building science practitioners range in scope from research and building investigation to design and construction administration.
An in-depth and comprehensive understanding of building science is what sets the people at Building Science + Architecture Ltd. apart from other architectural and engineering professionals.
